What if my child would like a different sized portion to the ages specified?

If you child would like a larger portion then that is not a problem.  We realise that some children may want the full adult meal or some of the Cheeky Monkeys may want the Junior portion.  This is all fine.  Just please select the correct one with the correct name when filling in the form.  Unfortunately you can’t downsize on the ages.  This is from the caterers and not us.  If your child is 7 then they will need to have the Junior portion and if they are 12 then they must order the Adult meal.

What if I just want to come to the Awards and not eat?

That isn’t a problem.  You can book a tickets for just the Awards and the Disco for £5 per person.  You can select this option on the form at the bottom of this page.

We like the evening to be a ‘Posh do’ so we would like everyone to dress up for the event in your best party dresses as this is a formal evening.

How many is the maximum I can have on a table?

The maximum that we can have on a table is 8 people.

When is the closing date for bookings?

I would like to be able to send our orders to the venue on 01 July 2017.  You don’t have to pay by this date.  We can pay later but we need to confirm numbers and food orders first so please don’t wait to book because you can’t pay at the time of booking.  Please make sure we receive your booking by 01 July 2017.

What do I do now?

Please complete the booking form by clicking the Apply Now button below.  Once you have completed your form submit it and you will receive an acceptance email.  Once your booking has been processed you will receive an invoice.  Please ensure you make the payment by the due date on your invoice.  Your order will be sent to the venue so please make sure you have chosen correctly because you won’t be able to change your order after you have sent the request.

If you have any further questions or would like to speak to us then please call 07760 163 602 or email

Sizes For Costumes

Sizes For Costumes

We have created an online form that you can use to let us know your child’s size for the costumes.  We need to ensure we order enough of each size for the relevant classes.

We will be putting together the costume list during February Half Term.  We will be ordering new costumes in and arranging hires so please make sure you complete this form accurately.  If we don’t have your child’s sizes then we may not have enough costumes for each child.

We know that there are so many variations to sizes.  Each shop seems to have their own size but if you can just give us your best answer that will be great.

Please remember there will be over 90 children performing in this show and so as you can imagine ordering the amount of costumes we have to order is very difficult.  You can make this much easier by taking a couple of minutes to fill in this form.

Thank you for your time.

Please click here for the form

You can get tickets for Big Screen Live! direct from the Carriageworks Theatre Box Office by calling 0113 376 0318 or email at or you can book online by viewing the seating plan by clicking here

When is the show?

How much are the tickets?

The tickets are priced at £15 and £13 for concessions.

Don’t miss out on your tickets for this amazing show and we hope to see you there!!!!

Big Screen Live! DVD

Big Screen Live! DVDs are being produced this year by a new company.

How much is the DVD?

We have agreed on a price of £14 per DVD and we have a minimum number we need to sell to cover the cost of the videographer coming in to film the event with 2 cameras.  The Academy has added no money to this DVD and it is charged at the price we have been quoted by the company.  This is to try and keep costs down for the parents.

When will we receive the DVD?

I have been told that your DVD should be available within 2 weeks of the show (if not sooner) and they will only be available to buy before the show as we need confirmed numbers to cover costs.

What happens when I have submitted the form?

Once you have submitted your online form you will receive an invoice which will be due 7 days after the show.  Once you have completed and submitted the form you won’t be able to cancel payment for the DVD so please ensure you will definitely want the quantity chosen before you order.

How do I book my DVD?

If you would like to book your DVD then please use our online form and then submit it.  You will receive an invoice for the DVD which will not have to be paid for until the show. We just want to make sure that we have sold enough.

Can I buy a DVD after the show?

Unfortunately we won’t be selling any DVDs at al after the show.  Because we have a minimum order to reach we need to know we have done this before the show so there will not be any DVDs available to buy after the show.  This is why we have made it so you can pay for the DVD within 7 days of the show.

If we don’t sell enough DVDs and we are left covering costs then unfortunately we won’t be able to produce a DVD of the show again and this would be awful for the students who need to be able to watch themselves back to see where they can improve and to learn about their performance.

I still have all of my VHS (don’t laugh) from when I was performing and they are memories I still look back on to this day.  I don’t want to take this away from our students.

Chaperone Registration

Chaperone Registration

This page is the portal to the form you need to submit to register as a chaperone.

Once you have submitted the form to register your interest then one of our head chaperones will contact you to help you with the next step in the process of becoming a licensed chaperone.

We need as many licensed chaperones as we can to deal with all the rehearsals and the shows we will be doing in 2017.  We have guidelines from the council about official ratios of students to chaperones.  If we don’t meet the correct ratios then we will be restricted in what we can offer to the students in terms of shows.

Once you have completed the form please can you be patient while our head chaperones reply to everyone. They are volunteers and so please remember this when dealing with them.  Its a very hard job and it takes a lot of hard work to piece everything together.

Rachel Maternity

As most of you will know already (you can’t miss it really!!) Rachel is ready to burst now and so she will be going on Maternity from Wednesday 09 November.  We wish Rachel all the best as she sets off on this new adventure.  You may still hear from her as she will still be involved and will obviously still be bringing Gracie so don’t worry she is definitely not leaving us.

I will not be bringing in a new member of staff to take over from Rachel on Maternity.  Some of our senior students will be there for the Tuc Shop and crowd control on Saturdays.  I will be keeping up with all the admin (so please be patient because I am not as quick as Rachel is ha ha).  I will deal with everything as quickly as I can.

If you are paying money then it will be logged and put into an envelope for me to sort out at home.  If you have any questions then these will be noted down and I will reply via email or phone where necessary.  If you would prefer it to be private then please send an email and I will respond that way.

I would ask everyone to make sure that they have joined the relevant groups on our remind app as there will be a lot of class messages sent through there as Rachel won’t be here to pass them on to you.  If you are unsure about this then please contact us and Rachel will be able to help you.

The new reception hours will be

Monday 5.30 – 7.00
Tuesday 5.30 – 7.00
Thursday – No Reception
Saturday 9.00 – 5.00

Please be patient with our team as they do their best to ensure a smooth period while Rachel is off.  I will be in the building always so you can always speak to me if it is an emergency.

Maya Fairburn Joins Imagine Theatre In Peter Pan This Christmas

Peter Pan at the Victoria Theatre, Halifax

Well it’s such a delight to be here again talking about a massive achievement for one of our students.

Maya Fairburn has auditioned for Peter Pan this Christmas at the Victoria Theatre in Halifax.   She been offered the part of one of the Junior Team of dancers performing this Christmas.

There are 2 teams of 8 dancers which were whittled down from 150 dancers. After starting at 930am this morning she went through 3 rounds of cuts through the day.  Finally at around 5pm she got the amazing news that she was in one of the final 2 teams.

Will our student ever cease to amaze me!!! I am so proud of her and all of the students who have flown the flag high for Tom Ball Live over the past year!!!!

Best call the box office!!!

Distinctions All Round

Well here I am sunning myself in Majorca when the messages start flying in from our excited students.   They are all desperate to tell me their LAMDA results from the summer session.  And what a way to finish off the year!!! Distinctions???

5 candidates all with Distinctions!!!! And to top it all off 3 of them at 90 or above!!! Hermione, Gracie (in her first ever LAMDA Exam) Anya, Millie and Lauren!!! Well done guys super dooper proud right now!!!

When you add that to the amazing Madeleine Hargrave who has received a Distinction in her Grade 6 RAD Ballet.  Furthermore,  she even managed to get a distinction while she was in full dress and tech rehearsals for Phantom of the Opera at the same time and being down to the finals in a casting for a feature film!!!

AND!!!!! The FULL SET of distinctions from our Christmas 2015 entries for LAMDA.  This makes every student at Tom Ball Live who was entered for an exam in the last academic year (our first year may I remind everyone) came out with a distinction!!!!!!

100% examination distinction rate!!!!!!!!!

Thank you so much to my amazing team.  Without your love and dedication to your students we would not have achieved such a fantastic set of results.  Also to the students.  You have taken on board every detail from your teachers and applied it. You have been amazing and I am so proud of each and everyone of you.

When I decided to create Tom Ball Live, I decided we were going to have a whole different approach to teaching performing arts. Well I live for these days.  The days when the hard work and perseverance pays off and everyone gets to see that there is another way to get to where you want to be.

My students succeed in the way they do because of a loving and caring team.  This means they love the classes and enjoy everything they do at the Academy.  They have the chance to perform with us constantly throughout the year.  In addition, they may also perform with other companies giving them the chance to work with different creatives all with different things to offer.

Laughing and crying as a team.  Being part of something that they can all be proud of.  How refreshing it is to be here now and seeing there is a better way to train students for this amazing industry!!!!

I love you all!!!!

Here’s to an amazing 2016/17!!!!

And remember we dare to be different…

Do you??????

Madeleine Hargrave Smashes It Again

Massive Congratulations…

So unbelievably proud of our Agency Client and Academy Student Madeleine Hargrave.  She appeared last week with Futurist Productions in their A Night At The Musicals at Yeadon Town Hall.

She played Elphaba in their Wicked section and quite frankly I was blown away!!! What a great number and what a fantastic performance. In addition to this already being a challenging role.  She arrived the week of the show to find out she was no longer playing Glinda!  She would now be playing Elphaba!

Well done Madeleine. So much improvement in one year! It’s incredible and you still have 4 more years of training. Well done.

Senior Summer Workshop 2016

A Tribute To…
Senior Summer Workshop

What is the summer workshop about?

This summer workshop performance is all about celebrating the amazing wealth of talent within the performing arts industry.  We will be looking at celebrated composers of various musical theatre shows, playwrights and of course choreographers.  We aim to bring our audience a diverse show with varied styles and eras whilst teaching the attendees about the brilliant pioneers that have made this industry as strong as it is today.  There will be the chance for some people to perform in solos, duets or groups as well as full company pieces.  With this show being created by our amazing team we can ensure there is something for everyone to get their teeth sunk into.  Don’t worry if your child is less confident.  There is no pressure for anyone to do anything on their own should they not want too.  The workshops are not only designed to push the limits of those wanting to go into the industry or who are wanting to increase their abilities, but also to help build confidence.

When is the summer workshop?

The Senior summer workshop is from Monday 08 August 2016 – Friday 12 August 2016
10am – 5pm daily with the performance on Friday 12 August 2016 at approximately 3.30pm

What are the ages for each of this workshop?

The age for this workshop is 12+.  If your child is younger than 12 then please see the Junior Workshop page.

Where is the summer workshop held?

The summer workshop will be at Temple Moor High School in Halton, Leeds.

Who will be teaching on the workshop?

The teachers for this workshop are Tom Ball – Singing, Luke Broughton – Acting and Samantha Kellett – Dance.  You can view their biographies by clicking their name.

What will they need?

The students will need plenty of water but they will be able to fill their bottles at the water coolers as and when needed.  They will need plenty of food to last for the day.  We usually have 2 snack breaks and then lunch and we do tend to find they eat all of their dinner in the first snack break so please ensure they have enough.  There may be little bits of costumes but we would only ask if we believe its something they may already have.  You would be told about this during the week of the workshops.

What do they wear?

As long as they are comfortable and they can move in what they are wearing then that is fine.  Bare feet, jazz shoes or black school pumps are the best for footwear.  They won’t be able to wear trainers.  Please don’t wear jeans as they are hard to move in and no skirts or dresses as its not appropriate when dancing.

What is the price of the summer workshop?

The workshop price is £120

What about tickets for the performance?

Each student performing is allocated 2 tickets free and then it is £2 per ticket thereafter.

What if my child attends a dance school elsewhere or not at all?

There is no prerequisite for these workshops.  It doesn’t matter if you are new to performing or have been performing for years.  We open these workshops to all children regardless of which dance school or performing arts academy they attend.

What do I do if I have more questions?

You can let us know of any further questions on the online application form by using the button the below.

How do I register for the summer workshop?

Tots and Junior Summer Workshop 2016

Alice In Wonderland
Tots and Juniors Summer Workshop

What is the summer workshop about?

Follow Alice on her adventures through Wonderland as she meets the White Rabbit, Mad Hatter, March Hare, Griffin, Mock Turtle and of course the Queen of Hearts.  This is not the Disney version of the story but it is crammed with brilliant memorable numbers, lots of parts and of course the age old and much loved Lewis Carroll story of Alice on her adventures in Wonderland.

When are these summer workshops?

The Tots are in Wednesday 03 August 2016 – Friday 05 August 2016
from 10am – 3pm for Wednesday and Thursday and from 10am – 4pm on Friday.

The Juniors are in Monday 01 August 2016 – Friday 05 August 2016
from 10am – 4pm daily.

What time is the performance on the Friday?

The performance will be from approximately 2.45pm

What are the ages for each of the groups?

The Tots are from 3 – 6yrs and the Juniors are from 7-11yrs.
If your child is 12 or over then please see the Senior Workshop page.

What are the Breakfast and After Workshop Clubs?

The breakfast and after workshop clubs are for those parents who have to work to be able to allow their child the chance to participate in the Summer Workshops.  These are only offered for the Tots and Juniors and not for the Seniors.  The clubs run for an hour and half before and after the above times for each summer workshop.  These are not included in the price and if you would like to book these in addition then you can do so by selecting them on the application form.  Your child will have toast or cereal in in both clubs should they want it and there will be things they can make and a dvd on for them to watch if they would like to do that instead.  If there are any food allergies then please make us aware of this.

Who is running the clubs before and after the workshops?

Rachel Hartley who is our admin manager and PA to the Principal will be running these clubs.  Rachel is a fully qualified teacher and is fully DBS checked.

What will they need?

The children will need plenty of water but they will be able to fill their bottles at the water coolers as and when needed.

Please don’t send the children in jeans as these are hard to move well in and please don’t send in skirts or dresses.  They must wear shorts, leggings or trousers.

What is the price of the summer workshop?

Tots is £60 (you receive a £5 discount on your second child and each subsequent child)
Juniors is £100 (you receive a £5 discount on your second child and each subsequent child)

What about tickets for the performance?

Each child is given 2 tickets free and then they are £2 thereafter.

What are LAMDA Exams?

LAMDA or London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts is the most highly thought of examination body for Acting.  There are various different choices of exams at varying levels which means we can tailor make a training program suitable to each student dependant on their chosen path for the future.  The LAMDA examinations are for the children who take private Acting lessons at the Academy.  These examinations do require private, one to one tuition with Luke to attain the best mark possible for the candidate.

Why are LAMDA exams beneficial?

These exams are brilliant for helping students with confidence, speech, pronunciation and diction.  They really help the students to develop those skills they will need when entering the world of employment.  Whether it is in the industry or not.  In business you are required to do presentations, in teaching you are required to stand and deliver a class, as a sales person either on the phone or in retail you are required to communicate with customers and be able to build up a relationship with them in a small amount of time.  All of these things are aided by the skills learnt in Acting.

When are the next exams?

The next set of LAMDA exams are on Saturday 09 July and Sunday 10 July 2016.  These are the dates for the Leeds sessions but there are alternative centres which students can be entered for if they can’t attend the Leeds Centre dates.

What if I would like to take LAMDA Exams?

We would advise that you book a Private Acting lesson with our Acting teacher Luke and then he will be able to asses your current level and advise how long it would be before you would be ready to take an exam.

How often are these exams?

There are 3 examination sessions within the year.  These are Spring, Summer and Winter.

Annual Awards Ceremony

Annual Awards Ceremony

What is it?

The Annual Awards Ceremony is a chance for us all to get together and celebrate the achievements from the past year.  Any student has taken any exams will receive their certificates, we have our student chosen Comedy Awards, the highest achiever awards and aside from all of this who doesn’t want an excuse for a good old party.  Celebrating achievements is a great part of learning.  Here at Tom Ball Live we strive to identify the strengths within all of our students and this event is a great way for us to show those strengths to the rest of the Academy.

What happens at the Awards Evening?

The evening starts with a 3 course meal of fantastic home cooked food which is provided by the caterers at The Riley Smith Hall.  You can choose from a menu which caters for vegetarians as well as those who enjoy eating meat.  After the meal there is a small performance of some of the stand out songs, monologues or dances from the year and after the awards presentation there is a disco for us all to have a good old knees up.

Where is the Awards Evening?

The Annual Awards Evening is held at the Riley Smith Hall in Tadcaster

When is the Awards Evening?

Saturday 23 July 2016 at 6.00pm

How do I get tickets?

Tickets are available from the Academy and you can book yours by emailing or calling 0113 322 7986

This is my favourite event in the Tom Ball Live calendar.  It is a great chance for everyone to let their hair down and a great way to meet other children and parents from the Academy.  The tickets are available to all friends and family of our students and I look forward to seeing you all there.

I am thrilled to announce our first ever Open Day at Tom Ball Live.  This is your chance to come along and see what being part of the Academy is all about.  There will be the chance to participate in 4 classes; Singing, Jazz, Acting and Ballet. Classes start from 2 1/2 years to 18 years and will be split into the relevant age groups.  This is a great chance to work with our fantastic staff and to see what the different disciplines involve.  Parents are welcome to watch the classes and there will be a 10 minute change over slot where parents can ask the teachers any questions.

We will also be performing a small demonstration of some of our recent show work and there will be the chance to talk to the teachers and students about what it is like to be part of the team. Refreshments will be on sale throughout the day including teas and coffees and some special TBL cupcakes.

We wanted the chance to show you what the ethos is at TBL and how much the children enjoy the classes we have on offer.  We have a fantastic and devoted faculty of highly qualified and experienced teachers who together have many years of industry experience whether that’s performing, teaching or both.  Our message at TBL is that everyone is different and individual and should be treated as such.  Everyone has strengths and it is our job in the Academy to nurture those talents and to help the children grow and achieve what they want to achieve.

St Mary’s Church Autumn Faire

St Mary’s Church Autumn Faire is now firmly in the calendar.  It was a delight to be asked to perform at the St Mary’s Church Autumn Faire for the second time.  The Academy had only been in operation for a matter of weeks and we all clubbed together and got the job done.

The performers for St Mary’s Church Show were

Millie Cranston
Lauren Smith
Erin Wilson
Madeleine Hargrave
Anya Bury
Megan Day

We had some AMAZING vocals which can be seen on our facebook page and some beautiful dance in the form of Irish, Lyrical and Jazz.

Jake from Light Design came along and did all of the sound and added additional lights for us to make sure, as always, that we give the most professional performance possible.  That means sound and lights as well as the performances given on stage.  Needless to say, the students performing behaved impeccably and were a credit to all in the Academy.  The response from St Mary’s Church was lovely and they were thrilled with our performance.

Well done to all those who performed and to those who came along to support.

The countdown is almost over…

The countdown to the Launch of Tom Ball Live is nearly over now and we have been back to Temple Moor to finalise all of the details ready for the big launch on Monday 21 September.

We start the week with Street, Senior Ballet and Pointe, Private Singing and Adult Ballet, Tap and Jazz.  It will be a great start to the week and after so many weeks off I am well and truly ready to get back too it.  If you would like to know how the rest of the week looks then you can check out or timetable.

Our all new Tom Ball Live banners are here and the uniform is being printed as we speak.  Can’t wait for the uniform to get here hopefully next week.  Gutted we didn’t get it in time to start with on Monday but it won’t be long before it is here.

To help with our countdown we have released our all new Promo Video, which looks amazing and I am so happy with it.  Massive thanks to Jake Steers at Light Design for creating it and all the artwork for Tom Ball Live.  If anyone is looking for any posters, logos, flyers etc then this is the guy to go to.  If you would like to contact him then just get in touch with us and we will give you his details.

Not much left to say but I hope you are all as excited as we are and can’t wait to get started.  Its been a whirlwind 6 weeks or so getting all of this up and ready and couldn’t have done it without my fantastic team around me.  So lucky to have them.

So enough with the countdown, its time to get this party started and I am looking forward to meeting you all this week, so let’s get this show on the road… ha ha.

The Agency Arrives…

As if the excitement of  the Academy being close to opening wasn’t enough, we have decided to add to  this with the launch of Tom Ball Live Agency.

The Agency is for Academy children and children whether they are part of another dance school or not.  We can guide those who are just starting out and can challenge those who have experience already to find the best of them.

Our team will be actively searching for castings and auditions for the clients to show off their performance skills.  We will use the Spotlight website which is the most commonly used directory of performers.  You can choose how far you would like to go in the Agency with our tailor made 3 choices, Bronze, Silver and Gold.  The levels are split to cater for those who would just like to dip their toe and those who want to be sent for everything that comes up, whenever they are suitable.

If you would like to be part of the Agency, there’s no need to audition and no fees to pay, however, you do need to be part of the Acting class within the Academy.  This is to ensure that the children are ready and prepared for the castings and the auditions.  It is also to ensure that we know the children and can help them to grow based on feedback from casting directors.  We want our clients to always be polite and well mannered and this will be encouraged within the class.

As within the Tom Ball Live Academy, we believe that different is better.  This has never been more important than relating to castings and auditions.  You need to stand out, be noticed, be confident!  These are all important qualities we actively encourage and develop within the Academy and the Agency.

Dare to be Different!

Tom Ball Live Starts Here!!!

Monday 21 September 2015 is the date booked in for the start of the all new Tom Ball Live Academy.

Temple Moor High School is a brilliant surrounding to be able to begin our journey into becoming the best place in Leeds to train for Musical Theatre.  The Tom Ball Live Agency will be running alongside the Academy to give our children the ability to gain as much performing experience as possible.

We are finalising all the details now regarding the start of classes and a prospectus will be going out via email to all of the people who have enquired about Tom Ball Live.  There will also be information about the Agency and what is expected of the parents, students and what to expect from us.

Don’t miss out on being part of this great Academy with highly trained and qualified staff and remember at Tom Ball Live, we think different is better.  Do you?
