Mardi Gras Challenge 2016

Thank you to all the Senior Elite Team who came with us to London.  We joined in the Mardi Gras Challenge 2016 at Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London.  What a brilliant time we had.

I am so proud of all of the Senior Elite Team for their performance in the show.  We were clean, well-rehearsed and overall professional and I couldn’t ask for more.

The standard was high but you rose to the challenge and I know that everyone watching thought you were amazing.

I would like to thank all the parents who were able to come along and support us and also to Sam who gave up her Saturday to travel down with us and help with hair and quick changes.  Boy were they quick!

It was an amazing opportunity to perform at such an amazing theatre.  Its just another brilliant venue to add to the list of venues we have performed at over the past year and a half.

Well done to you all and thank you for again being the most well mannered and professional group of students I have ever worked with!

Senior Summer Workshop 2016

A Tribute To…
Senior Summer Workshop

What is the summer workshop about?

This summer workshop performance is all about celebrating the amazing wealth of talent within the performing arts industry.  We will be looking at celebrated composers of various musical theatre shows, playwrights and of course choreographers.  We aim to bring our audience a diverse show with varied styles and eras whilst teaching the attendees about the brilliant pioneers that have made this industry as strong as it is today.  There will be the chance for some people to perform in solos, duets or groups as well as full company pieces.  With this show being created by our amazing team we can ensure there is something for everyone to get their teeth sunk into.  Don’t worry if your child is less confident.  There is no pressure for anyone to do anything on their own should they not want too.  The workshops are not only designed to push the limits of those wanting to go into the industry or who are wanting to increase their abilities, but also to help build confidence.

When is the summer workshop?

The Senior summer workshop is from Monday 08 August 2016 – Friday 12 August 2016
10am – 5pm daily with the performance on Friday 12 August 2016 at approximately 3.30pm

What are the ages for each of this workshop?

The age for this workshop is 12+.  If your child is younger than 12 then please see the Junior Workshop page.

Where is the summer workshop held?

The summer workshop will be at Temple Moor High School in Halton, Leeds.

Who will be teaching on the workshop?

The teachers for this workshop are Tom Ball – Singing, Luke Broughton – Acting and Samantha Kellett – Dance.  You can view their biographies by clicking their name.

What will they need?

The students will need plenty of water but they will be able to fill their bottles at the water coolers as and when needed.  They will need plenty of food to last for the day.  We usually have 2 snack breaks and then lunch and we do tend to find they eat all of their dinner in the first snack break so please ensure they have enough.  There may be little bits of costumes but we would only ask if we believe its something they may already have.  You would be told about this during the week of the workshops.

What do they wear?

As long as they are comfortable and they can move in what they are wearing then that is fine.  Bare feet, jazz shoes or black school pumps are the best for footwear.  They won’t be able to wear trainers.  Please don’t wear jeans as they are hard to move in and no skirts or dresses as its not appropriate when dancing.

What is the price of the summer workshop?

The workshop price is £120

What about tickets for the performance?

Each student performing is allocated 2 tickets free and then it is £2 per ticket thereafter.

What if my child attends a dance school elsewhere or not at all?

There is no prerequisite for these workshops.  It doesn’t matter if you are new to performing or have been performing for years.  We open these workshops to all children regardless of which dance school or performing arts academy they attend.

What do I do if I have more questions?

You can let us know of any further questions on the online application form by using the button the below.

How do I register for the summer workshop?

You can fill in our online application form to register your interest.  Please click the button below.

What happens next?

Someone from our team will confirm the receipt of your application and then we will create your invoice and email it to your designated email address.  Your invoice will show the due date of when the invoice needs to be paid by which will be Monday 25 July.  Your place will not be reserved until your invoice has been paid in full and all applications will be processed and booked based on a first come first served basis of when the invoices are paid.

The Lorax

The Lorax

The Junior Musical Theatre class will be working on ‘The Lorax’ this term in their Musical Theatre training.  It is imperative that the students at Tom Ball Live have the chance to develop the skills they learn in class by being able to perform on a regular basis.  This is one of the ways that we are giving our students that opportunity.

What is the story?

The Lorax is a brilliant Dr Seuss story which was recently made into a film.  As well as it being a great story with some fantastic music, it teaches children about the importance of looking after the environment and especially trees and wildlife.

Long before “going green” was mainstream, Dr. Seuss’s Lorax spoke for the trees and warned of the dangers of disrespecting the environment. In this cautionary tale we learn of the Once-ler, who came across a valley of Truffula Trees and Brown Bar-ba-loots, and how his harvesting of the tufted trees changed the landscape forever. With the release of the blockbuster film version, the Lorax and his classic tale have educated a new generation of young readers not only about the importance of seeing the beauty in the world around us, but also about our responsibility to protect it.

When is the performance?

The performance of The Lorax will be on Saturday 09 July at 12.15pm at Temple Moor High School

How do I get tickets?

Tickets are available from the Academy.  To book yours you can either email info@tomball-live.productions or call 0113 322 7986.

Thoroughly Modern Millie Jr

Thoroughly Modern Millie Jr

This year our Senior Musical Theatre class are working on  ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie Jr’ as part of their Musical Theatre Training.  Here at Tom Ball Live we believe the classroom for our students is the stage and we want them to have as many performing opportunities each year as we can.

The musical is about a young girl called Millie growing up in the 1920’s.  There are some brilliant songs and Charleston dancing throughout.  There is a great plot and with all the glitz and glamour of a Musical.  What more could any theatre lover ask for.

When is the performance?

The performance will be held on 07 July 2016 6.30pm at Temple Moor High School.

How do I get tickets?

You can book your tickets through the Academy by emailing info@tomball-live.productions or calling 0113 322 7986.

Double Bill

Double Bill

Double Bill is a show which will be performed by our Acting students at Tom Ball Live.  The show is split into two halves with the first half of the show being performed by our Junior Actors and the second by the Senior Actors.

Junior Acting

Our Juniors will be performing an adaptation of book Gangsta Granny written by David Walliams and adapted by our Acting teacher Luke Broughton.

The story focuses on a young boy who is having to stay with his Granny every Friday because his parents go to see a dancing show names Strictly Stars Dancing.  He finds her boring and repetitive as his granny always feeds him cabbage-related dishes.  However, all is not what it seems and there is a big adventure on the way.

Senior Acting

The Senior Actors are performing a reduced version of the play Ruckus in the Garden.

Ruckus in the Garden is a very funny and entertaining look at the trials of being a teenager, with a modern nod to A Midsummer Night’s Dream. It’s fast-paced and full of action as two rival schools meet on a school trip to a stately home and the Garden of Cecil Fortescue. Numerous fights break out between some unlikely opponents and the girls are just as feisty as the boys. However, the statues in the garden come to life, and start playing tricks on the teens, and that’s when things get really complicated, and some home truths are revealed.

When is the performance?

The performance is on Tuesday 28 June 2016 from 6.30-8.30pm at Temple Moor High School.

How do I get tickets?

Tickets are available from the Academy and you can book yours by emailing info@tomball-live.productions or call 0113 322 7986

This promises to be a fantastic show with so much variety and some very talented actors with the two groups.  Don’t miss out!!!

Open Day

Open Day

Sunday 24 April 2016

I am thrilled to announce our first ever Open Day at Tom Ball Live.  This is your chance to come along and see what being part of the Academy is all about.  There will be the chance to participate in 4 classes; Singing, Jazz, Acting and Ballet. Classes start from 2 1/2 years to 18 years and will be split into the relevant age groups.  This is a great chance to work with our fantastic staff and to see what the different disciplines involve.  Parents are welcome to watch the classes and there will be a 10 minute change over slot where parents can ask the teachers any questions.

We will also be performing a small demonstration of some of our recent show work and there will be the chance to talk to the teachers and students about what it is like to be part of the team. Refreshments will be on sale throughout the day including teas and coffees and some special TBL cupcakes.

We wanted the chance to show you what the ethos is at TBL and how much the children enjoy the classes we have on offer.  We have a fantastic and devoted faculty of highly qualified and experienced teachers who together have many years of industry experience whether that’s performing, teaching or both.  Our message at TBL is that everyone is different and individual and should be treated as such.  Everyone has strengths and it is our job in the Academy to nurture those talents and to help the children grow and achieve what they want to achieve.

If you would like more information about the Open Day or would like to register your child’s attendance then please email
info@tomball-live.productions and we will send you the information.

To give you an idea of what we do, take a look at our promotional video and other performances on our all new YouTube Channel.

You can also see all the things we get up to at TBL before you come to the Open Day by checking out our Facebook Page.

If you would like any further information or would like to ask any questions then please don’t hesitate to contact us on the email address above or call 0113 322 7986 and leave a message and one of our team will return your call as soon as possible.  If you are reading this after Sunday 24 April 2016 then please email the above email address or you can apply directly by using our online submissions form.

Festive Evening 2015 – Seven Theatre Chapel Allerton

Festive Evening 2015 – SOLD OUT!!!

Well it is that time of the year when the Festive Evening is upon us.  The Festive Evening is the most anticipated performance in the Academy calendar.  Its such a lovely event and both parents and children love it.  We are returning to Seven Theatre in Chapel Allerton this year.  We will have the famous 12ft Christmas tree on display as always and a program of brilliant festive songs and acting pieces to get us all ready for the big day.

Tuesday 22 December 2015

This is the date of the Festive Evening which is very exciting as it is so close to Christmas day this year.  It will be even more atmospheric this year, if that is possible.  Unfortunately the show is now completely sold out and we have no way of fitting any more people in.  It is always great to know that a show has sold out and the students are extremely excited that they will be performing to a ‘Full House’.

What’s different this year?

This year we have added in the Acting classes to the performance.  In the past we have provided a range of Christmas and festive themed songs but this year due to the short time the Academy has been running, we decided to add in the Acting children as they wouldn’t have been ready for their own show in October when we only opened in September.  We are also providing mince pies for everyone this year and that will just add to the fun of this very Festive Evening.

How will I be able to see the show if it is sold out?

We will be having a professional DVD created by Paul Harness who has worked for Tom Ball Live on a few productions now and always produces an excellent DVD with fantastic quality of audio and video.  The DVDs will be priced at £12.50 per DVD and will be available to order at reception from Monday 07 December by calling 0113 322 7986 or emailing info@tomball-live.productions or you can fill in a form on the day of the Festive Evening at Seven Theatre.

I can’t wait to see everyone at the venue on Tuesday 22 December.  I apologise to those who couldn’t get their tickets in time but subscribe to our posts and then you will not miss out on the release of further tickets for future events.

St Mary’s Church Autumn Faire

St Mary’s Church Autumn Faire is now firmly in the calendar.  It was a delight to be asked to perform at the St Mary’s Church Autumn Faire for the second time.  The Academy had only been in operation for a matter of weeks and we all clubbed together and got the job done.

The performers for St Mary’s Church Show were

Millie Cranston
Lauren Smith
Erin Wilson
Madeleine Hargrave
Anya Bury
Megan Day

We had some AMAZING vocals which can be seen on our facebook page and some beautiful dance in the form of Irish, Lyrical and Jazz.

Jake from Light Design came along and did all of the sound and added additional lights for us to make sure, as always, that we give the most professional performance possible.  That means sound and lights as well as the performances given on stage.  Needless to say, the students performing behaved impeccably and were a credit to all in the Academy.  The response from St Mary’s Church was lovely and they were thrilled with our performance.

Well done to all those who performed and to those who came along to support.
