What is it?
Stewart Avon-Arnold Dance Theatre is a youth company which is designed to give those students who have an exceptional talent for Lyrical Jazz and Contemporary the chance to work with one of the greatest jazz choreographers of our age. The company will be from 12 – 18 years of age, however, if someone shows exceptional talent at a younger age then of course they would be considered.
All students in the SAA Dance Theatre Company will take an hours with Stewart every week and then an hour and a half company class after to work on choreography. All students must attend regularly and any student who fails to do so may loose their place.
What is the style?
The style of SAA Dance Theatre is Lyrical Jazz. There are so many varying styles within this genre and it will be the subtle difference between these styles that students will be working on. You will learn different styles through Stewarts choreography.
What will we do?
Once the students in the SAA Dance Theatre Company have learned a set of routines from Stewart they will be taken to competitions and participate in performances across the country. The idea of this company is to get out there and be seen doing what the students and Stewart love the most, Lyrical Jazz. We already have contacts with several companies who organise high profile competitions and performances from Northern based Can You Dance? to Southern performances at Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London.
How do I become a member of the company?
The SAA Dance Theatre Company will commence classes in the summer 2016 term. The classes will serve as audition preparation classes and will prepare students for the style and technique that Stewart will be looking for in the audition.
After 3 audition preparation classes we will hold an audition to decide which students from the classes are successful in becoming part of the SAA Dance Theatre Company.
Where are classes held?
Class and Company rehearsals are held at Temple Moor High School in Halton, Leeds.
