ISTD Ballet, ISTD Tap and ISTD Modern
The core Academy classes follow syllabi from the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing for Ballet, Tap and Modern. The classes are Graded and run as follows;
Grades
ISTD Ballet and Tap – Pre-Primary and Primary then Grade 1 to 5
ISTD Modern Primary then Grade 1 to 5
Majors
ISTD Ballet, Tap and Modern – Intermediate, Advanced 1 and 2
After Grade 4 students may be selected to attend Intermediate Ballet alongside their graded class.
The syllabus classes are designed to teach students technique by perfecting exercises set by the relevant exam board. These exercises progress onto more difficult sequences and routines as students move through the grades and into the majors. These are the dance technique classes with the option to take part in exams if students would like to. This is not a requirement, it is optional. You have to attend the relevant Core class before you can attend the matching Levelled class. For example ISTD Ballet needs to be taken before you can attend Levelled Lyrical. This is because the two classes focus on different things and without the technique from these classes, students can’t attain the required level to take part in the Levelled Classes.
